The Project

Refashion for Good is a project funded by the Erasmus+ programme of the European Union. It involves seven partners from Denmark, Italy, Greece, Spain and Poland, who share a common vision of promoting sustainable fashion education among secondary school students and teachers.

The project is based on the 4R (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle and Rethink) idea, which aims to address overconsumption in the fashion industry and its environmental and social impact. The project also seeks to challenge the stereotypes and misconceptions created by the fashion industry and improve adolescents’ well-being.

The project started in 31 December 2022 and will last until 30 December 2025.

Reduce

Reducing in sustainable fashion means minimizing the amount of clothing and accessories we buy and consume. It emphasizes the importance of purchasing fewer, but higher-quality items that are durable and timeless. This practice helps to decrease the overall demand for fast fashion, which is often characterized by short-lived trends and disposable garments. By reducing our consumption, we can significantly lessen the environmental impact of the fashion industry, including the reduction of waste and pollution associated with production and disposal.

Reuse

Reusing in sustainable fashion involves finding new ways to extend the life of existing garments. This can be achieved through upcycling, repairing, and altering clothes to give them a new look or purpose. Thrift shopping, clothing swaps, and second-hand markets are also great ways to reuse fashion items. By reusing clothing, we can reduce the need for new production, which in turn conserves resources and minimizes waste.

Recycle

Recycling in sustainable fashion focuses on converting old or discarded textiles into new fabrics or garments. This can be done through mechanical or chemical processes that break down fibres and create new materials from them. Brands and consumers can contribute to recycling by participating in take-back programs and choosing products made from recycled materials. Recycling helps to divert textiles from landfills and reduces the demand for virgin resources, such as raw cotton or synthetic fibres derived from petroleum.

Rethink

Rethinking in sustainable fashion encourages a shift in mindset towards how we perceive and engage with fashion. It involves questioning the traditional linear fashion model of take-make-dispose and exploring circular models where products are designed for longevity, reuse, and recyclability. Rethinking also means being more conscious about our purchasing decisions, supporting ethical brands, and advocating for fair labour practices and environmentally friendly production methods. By rethinking our approach to fashion, we can foster a more sustainable and ethical industry
